A recent mobile broadband speed test commissioned by O2 and carried out by an independent contractor, has seen Vodafone and O2 very happy with the results of the testing, because both networks were declared as being the fastest in the United Kingdom.

The tests were conducted by the agency over two months, seven days a week at a hundred and fifty different locations. The tests were carried out at various times in a day, and spread over time and space to get the authentic result of what mobile internet speeds the average consumer was getting.

The results indicated that in the five cities that were tested for browsing, Vodafone provided the best speed. O2, Orange and T-Mobile were tied for the second spot in browsing speeds, but O2 was declared fastest in twelve cities for music download services, followed by Vodafone.

Consumers are usually happy with tests that provided them a bottom line on which network was providing the fastest mobile broadband service (see best broadband providers), but it also revealed that there was only a minor difference in speed provided by other network operators in the UK. However, it cannot be determined what network is best for a particular area because data for specific locations has not been released and so consumers still do not know which operator would be the fastest in their particular area.
