Laxton is a small rural village in north Nottinghamshire, dating back to the Norman Conquest of 1066.
Todays visitors can see the the site of the old castle at the outskirts of Laxton, and see the best preserved motte and bailey castle in Nottinghamshire.
You can also view the attractive, and fine looking, St Michael’s church that dates back from 1190 and is still regularly used to this day.
Yet, what makes the village really singular is its use today of the Medieval Open Field Farming System.
This system is the only working open field system in the UK and one can walk the area by yourself or go on a tour with a local, that we will happily arrange if you so wish.
There is a visitor’s cente by the Dovecote Inn with lots more information about Laxton.
At the heart of Laxton is the pub where one will find great value, local food and ale, in addition to amiable villagers who will gladly tell you a tale or two.
The Goat House is int he centre of the village and goes back 200 years.
It has recently been refurbished to an award winning level, we give excellent value for money accommodation with a master bedroom, a twin bedroom and a family bathroom. If you would lilke more information about Laxton Bed and Breakfast then visit www.the-goathouse.com.
