One of the founders of Google, Larry Page, envisions an office where there are no more paper trails and where information is easily accessible, via keyboard and mouse.
“Basically, our goal is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” explains Page.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google not just as a search engine, but something that would deliver data without the confusion of other search engines.
Larry Page’s vision is succinct. “The ultimate search engine would basically understand everything in the world, and it would always give you the right thing. And we’re a long, long way from that.”
The implementation of Google Docs has contributed to the ultra reconstruction of the office environment. Google Docs allows the user to store word documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online through the Google server. Google Docs can also be shared with multiple users. Google is also offering an offline mode which would allow the user to synchronize changes in their documents when they’re connected to the net.
Recently Google launched Google Health as a means of consolidating medical data for healthcare professionals. There are also news reports of Larry Page asking the FCC for permission to use TV bandwidths as a means of setting up a national wi-fi network in the United States. With the modernization, classification and integration of all sorts of data plus internet access from virtually anywhere, who knows what the office environment will be years from now.
